How do I set up an Audio Job in Primo DVD?

What: This procedure allows you to create an audio CD using WAV, MP3 or WMA files. Note: this procedure is not for copying already created and mastered original audio CDs. If you have already created a master audio CD in another application or this application and you would like to make additional copies. Please use the Disc to Disc copy procedure or the Disc Image procedure.

How to:

Step 1 - In PrimoDVD Select File - New Job - Audio Disc. An audio compilation job panel will open in the job setup window.

Step 2 - Select the recorder(s) that will record this job by double clicking the drive in the drive status window. Make sure you see the red arrow pointing toward the left.

Step 3 - Select the number of copies and the recording speed.

Step 4 - Check the print box if you want to print a label on the disc. Type the full path and name of your image file into the box, or click on the Browse button to open a standard Windows Open dialog to locate the file. If you have not yet created a label to print on the disc click on the SureThing button to open SureThing and create a label.

Step 5 - Go to the Edit menu - Select the Add Files/Folders, Add with File Finder or Add Track from CD. Right click in the file list screen to see the same options. You may also add the audio tracks you want to record by dragging and dropping from Windows Explorer. (See the File Formats section below for information on the correct sample rates for WAV, MP3 and WMA files.)

  • Add File - Opens a browse window to add the appropriate file type to the job. Only job compatible file types will be displayed (WAV, MP3, or WMA).
  • File Finder - Searches your entire computer for all appropriate file types for the selected job. Only job compatible file types will be displayed (WAV, MP3, or WMA).
  • Add Track from CD will add *.CDA (CD Audio) files from a disc in your CD drive. Before the job begins, tracks located on a CD will first be copied to a temporary location on your hard drive.

Step 6 - Click on the red Record button.

Extracting Tracks from audio CDs

If you would like to select audio tracks from audio CDs instead of from your hard drive, those tracks should be extracted and saved in audio formats (.WAV or MP3) on the hard drive. If you want to save this job and you do not choose to extract / convert audio tracks from CDs first you will need to have the source audio CD available every time you run this job.

Instructions:

  1. Put the CD in the drive.
  2. Right click on the drive in the drive status window.
  3. Click Extract Track.
  4. Select the track you want to extract from the list.
  5. Choose the location and file name in the Track box at the bottom of the dialog in the track box.
  6. Click Extract.

The format is set to WAV by default but you can change it to MP3 using the format box. To extract multiple tracks select multiple tracks and choose a file name. A number corresponding to the track number will be added to the end of each file name.

File Formats

WAV, MP3 or WMA tracks created or extracted using other applications must be in the following format:

Bit Rate: 1411 kbps
Audio Sample Rate: 16bit
Channels: 2 (stereo)
Audio Sample Rate: 44 khz

To check the format of a file, right click on it and choose properties. Note: If you use the Primo software to extract tracks, this format is used by default.

If you attempt to add files that are in an incorrect format you will see the message below:

CD Text

Selecting Edit/CD Text will allow you to input CD Text information which will be recorded to the CD-R disc. A disc containing CD Text will display the names of the track and artist on CD Text enabled devices. CD Text recording can only be done with certain CD Recorders. To determine whether your drive supports this function, please contact your drive manufacturer. Once you have all of your files added in the order you want them, right click on any track and choose "CD Text Information". Now select each track and click edit to edit the title. Check the "All Tracks" box to change the performer for all tracks.

Pre-gap and ISRC

Pre-gaps are short intervals of no sound before each track. When adding tracks, the pre-gap is set by default to 2 seconds or 150 sectors. To edit this value, right click on a track and choose Pre-gap and ISRC. Enter the new pre-gap value. 1 second equals 75 sectors. (See the diagram below.)

IRSC is used to identify discs in CD players that are capable of displaying artist and track information. Typically IRSC codes are used when a disc is placed in a computer CD drive. The media player application uses the code that is burned on the disc to search a database on the Internet and then display the appropriate artist and track information. It can also be used by programmable component CD players to identify a disc. If a CD name is programmed into a CD player the CD player uses the IRSC on the disc to display the correct name the next time the disc is placed in the player. For more information on International Standard Recording Codes (IRSC) contact the International Federation of Phonographic Industry (IFPI).

To edit this value, right click on track and choose Pre-gap and ISRC. Enter the new ISRC value in the field provided. You may enter a specific ISRC for each track or select all tracks and choose Pre-gap and ISRC to change the value for all tracks. (See the diagram below)

Recording Options

Click the Recording Options button at the top of the job setup window or right click in the audio job setup window and select Recording Options. By default the audio disc is set to Disc at once, closed. Changing this value may cause the audio CDs not to play on many systems.
