No Robot Found (Error message received after opening PTPublisher for PC)

This error indicates that the computer is not communicating with:

A. the recorder (burning) drive(s) in the robot and/or

B. the printer in the robot.  

To dermine which is causing the error check for extra drives in my computer and check the ink level display in the driver.

Drives:  First turn off the Disc Publisher.  Now go to Start Button - Computer.  Switch on the Disc Publisher.  Depending on which model you have one or more drives should appear in the Computer as Devices with Removable Storage.  You can right click on the drive and choose eject to open the tray.  If the tray inside the Disc Publisher opens you know the computers "sees" the drive. If the trays does not eject, the computer is not seeing the drive. Please follow the corresponding "Drive" troubshooting steps below.

Printer:  Go to Start Button - Devices and Printers. Right click on your printer - choose Printing Preferences.  Choose Clean/Change Cartridges and Check Ink Levels -OR- Printer Information for a 4100 Series printer.  If you see ink level percentages or firmware version information, the printer is communicating with the computer.  If you see a question mark where the ink percentages should be the printer is not communicating. Please follow the corresponding "Printer" troubshooting steps below.

Important Note:  Make sure the buttons on the top of the disc publisher are not flashing.  This would indicate the printer is in an error state that may be preventing it from starting up normally.  If the lights are flashing, cycle power on the disc publisher.  If the buttons are still flashing, remove the ink cartridges and cycle the power again.  If the buttons continue to flash there may be a hardware problem that is preventing the disc publisher from starting up normally. Contact tech support.

Printer Troubleshooting

1. Driver installed. Make sure the print driver is installed. Go to Control Panel – Printers and Faxes. There should be a Disc Publisher listed in there.  If no driver is installled use the installation disc to install the driver or download it from the driver page.

2. Driver Name. Make sure the driver is named correctly. You are not able to change the driver name. You may append information to the end of the name.  Look for one of the names below, depending on the product you have.

Driver Name = Product
Disc Publisher II = Bravo II
Disc Publisher XR = Bravo XR
Disc Publisher SE = Bravo SE
Disc Publisher Pro = Bravo Pro
Disc Publisher XRP = Bravo XRP
Disc Publisher Pro Xi = Bravo Pro Xi or Bravo Pro Xi2
Disc Publisher 4100 Series = Bravo 4101, 4102 or 4051.

3. Communication

  • Make sure the USB cable is connected.
  • Try a different USB port. It should not be connected through a hub.
  • Try a different USB cable. Ensure the USB cable is 6ft or less.

4. Rights. Make sure you have sufficient rights. If you are running PTPublisher on Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8, you may have to right click on the application and choose "Run as Administrator".  See this article for more information.

5. UAC. Turn off UAC following the instructions at this article.

Drive Troubleshooting

6. Check communication cables.  

  • Make sure the USB cable is connected.  
  • If using Blu-ray drives with a Disc Publisher BLU, you will also need to make sure the included eSata cable is connected.  There will be one cable required for each drive.  These are no optional cables.  If you do not have eSata connections on your computer you will need to install the eSata card provided with the equipment.

7. Remove Discs from Drives. Remove any discs that are loaded in the Disc Publishers drive(s).

8. Check for Drive letters. Make sure each drive in the publisher has an assigned drive letter visible in My Computer. Check for anything out of the ordinary such as several USB drives, virtual drives, or several networked drives. If those drives cause the publisher drives to appear out of order or very late in the alphabet you may have to remove some drives or reassign drive letters.  (See 9. and 10. below)

9. Uninstall Drive(s)/USB Mass Storage Device in Device Manager. This procedure may be necessary to force the computer to properly recognize the drives.  Repeat up to three times if necessary.  Make sure the Disc Publisher is on and connected to the computer before starting this procedure.

  1. Right click on “My Computer” or “Computer” and click on “Manage”.
  2. Click on “Device Manager” at the left.
  3. Click on “USB Serial Bus controllers” to expand the section.
  4. Right click on USB Mass Storage Device and click on “Uninstall”.
  5. Click on “Yes” to confirm.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for any other instances of USB Mass Storage Device, if present.
  7. Unplug USB and Power to the Disc Publisher. 
  8. Reboot the computer.
  9. Plug power and USB back in.  
  10. Watch the device manager USB area.  Both instances should reappear. The drives will also reappear in the DVD/CD-ROM drives area. 
  11. Once they reappear, attempt to open PTPublisher.
