Answer

Essential Guide to Aligning Full Bleed Prints on an LX Series Label Printer

1. Load the label stock correctly.  If this is not done correctly nothing else matters! - See KB Article

Tip! Tear off the first label from the liner each time you load it so that the label sensor has sufficient time to properly read the beginning of the label.  This calibrates that sensor for the rest of that roll.  It is recalibrated each and every time you load label stock even if it is the same size.  This will reduce the need to adjust the TOF.

2. Over bleed - See KB Article

  • Set Paper size .05 - .1 inches larger on width and height
  • Change image size .05 - .1 larger on width and height

3. Test at the same quality level you will be printing at!  Changing quality levels will change alignment!  If you change qualities between prints you also change the speed at which the label moves over the sensor which can affect how it reads the beginning point of any label and therefore the TOF.

4. Print one label as a starting point.  Evaluate the print.

5. Change TOF and Left Margin Offset accordingly.  Do not reload label stock or change other settings at this point.  Changing other variables will change these settings.

6. Print and readjust as necessary. It is typical for experienced users to waste up to 5 printed labels for this process and 5 un-printed labels that are skipped. First time users may waste from up to 20 printed and un-printed labels.

7. Once the print is aligned, print a run of 5 labels. Re-evaluate the alignment and make any final adjustments to TOF or Left Margin Offset. TOF is more likely to change on a run of labels versus a single print.

Notes:

  • As an experienced user expected to spend about one half hour setting up full bleed prints.
  • A first time user may spend an hour or more setting up full bleed prints.
  • Non full bleed prints with a white background can be setup in under 5 minutes.
  • You will need to readjust the TOF and Left Margin for each new roll that is loaded.
