How do I adjust the drives on my Composer Max for front-to-back drive picking problems?

Answer

How do I adjust the drives on my Composer Max for front-to-back drive picking problems?

The drives in the Composer Max come factory calibrated to the correct front to back positions. Typically you would not need to manually adjust drive positions. Make sure to first try the calibration procedures using the buttons on the front of the Composer Max. However, occasionally drives can come loose and slip back or forward in the drive housing. If this happens use the procedure listed below:

Upper drives are locked into position by the front pairs of screws on the top of the drive cage cover. Lower drives are locked into position by the rear pair of screws on the top of the drive cage cover. They are the screws in the recessed holes of the printer plate.

Such that:
The Left front pair of screws = left upper drive
The Left rear pair of screws = left lower drive
The Right front pair of screws = right upper drive
The Right rear pair of screws = right lower drive

Instructions:

  1. Power down the MAX and printer
  2. Remove data cable (parallel) from the printer
  3. Remove 9-pin cable from the printer
  4. Remove the printer
  5. Loosen correct pair of screws from the list above for the drive in question
  6. Move drive fore and aft as needed (you may need to remove the drive cage cover to be able to move the drive in/out if you cannot move it by just grasping the drive from the front of the drive – there are two screws on each side of the cover)
  7. Tighten screws
  8. Check calibration position with robotic arm calibration instructions for that drive position
  9. Pick multiple times with the pick button while closing and opening the drive tray to test new position
  10. Pick multiple discs with the Robotics/Manual Movements from PrimoDVD
  11. Replace drive cage cover if removed
  12. Replace printer
  13. Replace cables
