What is the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R?
The practical difference between +R and -R discs is that some +R discs play on players that -R disc don't play on and vice versa. The technical differences are numerous.
The main difference is that DVD+R use ADIP format to write instead of Pre-pits. There are several other technical differences regarding error checking. DVD-R was the first format developed by Pioneer. DVD+R was developed by Sony and Phillips. Some argue that technically, the DVD+R is a superior format due to the inherent practicality of the ADIP format. However, it really comes down to player compatibility.
According to surveys of users the compatibility is just about the same. Either format plays on about 90% of all players.Ultimately, using either will have to be a decision you make from experience.
